Applique embroidery blends machine stitching and fabric cutouts. Our custom files include placement, tack-down, and satin borders in the right sequence, manually built in Wilcom V9/E2 with no auto-digitizing.
Applique digitizing creates a three-phase machine sequence: a placement run-stitch that marks exactly where the fabric goes, a tack-down stitch that locks the applique fabric to the base garment, and a satin or border stitch that finishes and permanently secures the edge. Getting all three phases right requires manual planning in Wilcom V9 and E2 for every fabric combination and design shape.
Every appliqué file is built in Wilcom V9 and E2 by one of our 38 expert digitizers, with the placement line, tackdown and cover stitch set by hand.
Twill, felt and woven fabrics need different tackdown width and cover density. We set each file for the fabric you use so edges stay sealed and do not fray.
Machine stops are added between placement, tackdown and cover steps, and stitches are sequenced so you trim the fabric once, with no extra jumps.
Proper jump stitch planning and trim sequencing prevents thread nesting around the applique edge and reduces trimming time in production. Every thread route is planned manually for clean results.
From your artwork to a machine ready appliqué file, here is exactly what happens step by step.
Upload your logo or design through our client sign-up/login. We accept JPG, PNG, PDF, and AI. Just let us know your fabric type and machine brand so we can ensure a perfect fit.
We review your artwork to confirm stitch count and pricing. If any borders are too thin to hold structure, we advise you upfront no surprises, just professional results.
Our digitizers hand-map every path manually, setting placement lines, tack downs, and borders. A 1 to 2 hours rush service is available at no extra charge.
You receive a stitch preview before final delivery. If anything needs adjustment, we fix it free of charge. Your DST, PES, and EMB files are then delivered ready to use.
Applique combines fabric and embroidery for bold, cost-effective designs with dramatically lower stitch counts. But it requires a specific digitizing approach.
All thread, no fabric overlay
Fabric layer + embroidery border
If your design has a large filled area (anything over about 4 inches wide) and a relatively simple shape, applique saves significant machine time and thread cost. A large circle or wide letter filled with thread can have 30,000–50,000 stitches. The same shape in applique might have 5,000 stitches.
💡 Applique is standard in school and team sportswear: varsity letters, crests, team logos, for exactly this reason. The fabric layer also gives a dimensional quality that full thread fill can't match.

Appliqué combines fabric cutouts with stitching. The file runs in three steps: a placement line that shows where the fabric goes, a tackdown stitch that holds it, and a satin or decorative border that finishes the edge. The machine stops between steps so the fabric can be placed and trimmed.
Appliqué is priced at $1 per 1,000 stitches with a $7 minimum, so most designs are low cost because the fabric covers large areas instead of thread. Standard delivery is 4 to 8 hours, with rush available.
Satin-border appliqué, raw-edge appliqué, layered appliqué with several fabrics, appliqué mixed with fill embroidery, and patch appliqué for letters and jerseys. Each type needs a different stitch sequence.
Yes. Jersey numbers and varsity letters are the most common appliqué jobs. We build placement paths for tackle twill, felt and chenille letters, with tackdown and satin border settings for each.
Yes. A common design is an appliqué base shape with embroidered detail on top. We order the stitching so the machine moves cleanly between the appliqué steps and the embroidered parts.
Yes. Appliqué is a cost-effective way to make large patches: the fabric fills the background and the stitching adds the border and detail. We set a strong satin border so the patch can be cut out without fraying.
