We digitize every cap and hat type manually in Wilcom V9 and E2 covering structured caps, snapbacks, unstructured low-profiles, truckers and beanies alike.
Whether you call it cap digitizing or hat digitizing, the same curved-surface process applies to trucker hats, snapbacks, dad hats, and structured caps. The curved surface of a cap requires specialized digitizing that accounts for curved-surface compensation, fabric tension and frame pull. Auto-digitizing software cannot handle these variables correctly. Every cap file we produce is hand-built in Wilcom V9 and E2. Having trouble with embroidery thread breaks? Learn how to fix embroidery thread breaks.
Every cap file is built stitch by stitch in Wilcom V9 and E2 by one of our 38 expert digitizers. No auto-digitizing software, no auto fonts. Every stitch angle, underlay type and density is set manually.
Cap fabric requires different underlay and density settings than flat garments. We configure each file for your specific cap type and fabric, not a generic setting that applies to all caps.
DST for Tajima, PES for Brother, JEF for Janome, VP3 for Husqvarna Viking and every other major format. All included in your order price at no extra charge.
Proper jump stitch planning and trim sequencing prevents thread nesting on the underside of your cap and reduces trimming time in production. Every thread route is planned manually for clean results.
Cap and hat digitizing is the most technically demanding garment type. Here's everything your shop needs to know before placing an order.
Detailed logos, text, and complex designs
Bold raised logos for premium headwear
A cap curves. A flat polo does not. That curve creates a pull compensation challenge that doesn't exist on flat garments. If the digitizer uses flat-garment settings on a cap file, the design drifts, letters go crooked, and fills pucker near the seam.
๐ก Every Sassy Digitizing cap file uses centre-out stitch pathing starting from the centre and working outward so tension distributes evenly across the curved surface.

Most cap front logos cost $15 to $25, depending on detail. Every order includes all machine formats and the editable EMB file, with no setup fee. Standard delivery is 2 to 4 hours, and rush delivery in 1 to 2 hours is available.
On a structured cap front, most designs are up to about 2.25 inches tall and 4.5 to 5 inches wide. Low-profile and unstructured caps take smaller designs, usually under 2 inches tall. Side and back placements are smaller again, around 1 to 1.5 inches tall.
Usually the file was built for a flat shirt. On a cap frame the design must stitch from the center outward and from the bottom up, with extra pull compensation on the curve. Our cap files are built that way so the logo stays centered and the letters stay upright.
Yes, for the best result. Structured caps have a stiff front and handle more density; unstructured caps flex, so they need lighter density and a stronger underlay. Tell us the cap style when you order and we set the file to match.
Yes. We digitize cap lettering down to about 3 mm (0.12 inches) tall using bold, simple fonts and hand-set column widths. Thin script or serif fonts need to be larger, about 6 mm, to stay readable on the curved front.
Yes. Beanies need a knockdown underlay so the stitches do not sink into the knit, visors need low density to avoid stiffness, and bucket hats are usually stitched flat in a hoop. We set each file for the hat type you name on the order.
